I feel like I’m too picky about the books I read and can’t find any good ones so I figured I’d ask the internet since more brains are better than one and all that. As a base I always start with I like books with strong magical female protagonist but it’s a bit more complicated than that. Since I can’t describe some aspects wet well I’m going to include a list of examples of each “trait”
Stuff I like in books
– soulmates/ fated mates whatever the books calls it. Two people meant to be together
Ex. ACOTAR, TOG, Belladonna
– fae (this is a requirement but I do enjoy the whole wordplay bargains, magic, and slightly less inhibited by human morals aspect of it)
Ex. ACOTAR, the rose bargain, The burning sky
– enemies to lovers tropes but not like slow slow burn at least one of them has to recognize they love the other they don’t have to admit it right away but do one better and show it
Ex. ACOTAR (alright I said this one too much),Fourth Wing, Better than the movies
It’s not a books characteristic but I can be easily convinced to like books based off those lines that make you go “oh” with that knowing eyebrow raise but I think most fantasy books have at least a few of those
Things I dislike (no seriously):
– betrayal (it’s fine if it’s for a good reason or they feel bad and fix it quickly like in blood and ash, Defy the night, or that one scene from final gambit) call it the hufflepuff in me but people who you trust and love shouldn’t knowingly and intentionally hurt you
Ex. Mister greedy (I refuse to take his name) from Gleam he knows what he did the-, the red queen (I dnfed so fast at the end there), the second book in prison healer (yeah I skipped that one but the other two were amazing. Keep in mind it was only acceptable cause she was forced and in the third book she got her act together real fast plus I already loved her)
– conflict for the sake of conflict. Like I know the book needs conflict I mean between the characters. If you already found out you love each other don’t have them pulled apart (I don’t mean like in fourth wing series, defy the night series, or the twisted games series that was the situation more than them and not for extended times) can’t it just be you guys against the world
Ex. The rest if the gold series after the third (I read those descriptions and was like no just.. not doing this you found each other so stay together), the shadows rule all ( i read the description and was like no we’ve already done the whole separated thing and this description implies y’all won’t be together for another whole book I can’t anymore. Though it did sound interesting I’m just scared… put this one as a maybe), I never read it but apparently zodiac academy has slow stretched out slow burn so not that (speaking of cause this is apparently a thing: if you have a soulmate like bond, don’t freaking disrespect it by messing with it in any form shape. I didn’t know it was a thing what they did but yeah glad I asked the internet before starting it)
– I don’t like incomplete series so if you could avoid suggesting any that’d be great.
