I’m engrossed in books when the author speaks in FPV. I’m looking for a book where the protagonist is highly self aware or becomes so through his actions or thought process in achieving a goal, meeting milestones or self improves along the way. Real time motivation. Preferably something where most of the read is spirited or positive and I’m not drug through heartbreak or sadness to get to the last quarter of the book for the self revelation. I’m more interested in what the protagonist is thinking and how he feels while he’s doing it
Thanks ya’ll. Awesome community

I’d highly recommend the works of Pat Conroy., though he does rely heavily on mental anguish; his heroes are often redeemed through suffering. I’d particularly emphasize The Lords of Discipline, Beach Music, and The Prince of Tides.
Not as literary, but Stephen King also has some good first person’s as well. 11/22/63 is a good one, obviously the premise is highly fictional, but the character’s journey is fantastic and it’s not really a horror novel like his earlier works.
Honorable mentions –
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon
The Perks of being a Wall Flower by Stephen Chlabowsky (I butchered that spelling)
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
