I'm looking for books on learning to communicate with another group of people that speak a different language when there are no tools for translation (google translate, etc) available. Books on deciphering ancient or lost languages would also be helpful and interesting, as long as they start from the beginning on methods used. (I am not an expert, I just think this is interesting).
I'm not looking for books on how kids learn language, and I'm not looking for fiction, but interesting true stories are welcome.
I'm currently reading "Key Questions in Second Language Acquisition." I've previously read "Cryptanalysis" by Helen Fouche Gaines (which is sort of related)
I'm trying to read some books on this topic for a story I'm writing, and this subreddit has a lot of neat recommendations that I never would have thought of or found.
