My FAVORITE niche is romantic suspense or thriller with a strong female character in law enforcement – FBI, police, even a PI – something badass. I prefer romance (F/M) and love to read series over just standalone books. I listen to books mostly through Hoopla or Libby since I have a long commute, but I will read.
The procedural process MUST be believable. Nothing turns me off faster than an author who clearly did no research.
My absolute favorite author is Allison Brennan – complex characters, believable law enforcement, twisty, and not afraid to have characters swear or get gory. I’ve been through her mainstream series.
Here’s what else I’ve read and liked:
Kate Burkholder series – Linda Castillo
Laurel Snow series – Rebecca Zanetti
Fatal series – Marie Force
Sunshine trilogy – Darynda Jones
Keye Street series – Amanda Kyle Williams
Cold and Deadly – Toni Anderson (I didn’t like the narrator so I didn’t listen to more)
Here’s what I haven’t liked:
Kate Walsh series – Stacy M. Jones (great storytelling but couldn’t get past the lack of procedural knowledge)
Dangerous Games – Tess Diamond (okay story, complete lack of procedural knowledge)
Nancy Mehl books – I don’t like Christian romance
I know the “In Death” series is quite popular – the full series is just not in audiobooks through my libraries. Same with Melinda Leigh series and Kendra Elliott series.
