I’m attempting to get through the audiobook of The Night Shift by Alex Finlay, but one of the narrators seems to have gone to William Shatner school of voice acting. It’s so incredibly distracting, every single word is overacted. The book is ok, nothing great, but entertaining enough and I’d like to finish it.

Nothing makes you realize just how important a good narrator is than having a horrible one, I guess.

Who are your favorites? Do you go through and listen to their entire catalogue?

Will Patton is the best of the best. Voice like cigarettes and whiskey. I don’t seek out books based on his narration, but it’s a delightful, surprise whenever I come across one.

    2. He doesn’t do too many audiobooks per se but Jason Hill. He was part of the Chilling Tales network podcast and had his own show, Horror Hill, where he would read horror short stories from a variety of writers. He always brings so much personality to the stories, making them terrifying or hilarious as needed. Does a great job with different voices for different characters too.

I listen to a lot of horror podcasts/audiodramas/audiobooks and he’s easily my favorite VA.

    3. I don’t look for books just because of a specific narrator (and I mostly listen to nonfiction which is often narrated by the author). That said, every time I start an audiobook and realise it’s Dion Graham narrating, I know I’m in for a treat.

    4. Adjoa Andoh is my fave. She reads all kinds of books, and has a vast array of accents & voices.
