I have just recently came to the conclusion that a significant amount of my problems stem from my phone
/screen usuage (our parents were right). Convenience has slowly deteriorated every facet of my life. My unsatiable desire for dopamine must stop, and I plan on using books to help.

I have been wanting to start really reading for quite some time, but of course, there's always been something more "interesting" on my phone, so why bother? That stops today. However, I still don't know where to start, which is why I am here today, humbly asking for your help.

I am looking for 6 different books that fulfill different aspects of my interests. I should also mention i have Aphantasia, which means I have no visual imagination. So ideally Something where the author isnt overly descriptive, as that does nothing for me. Also as I am a "beginner" per se, probably nothing like Infinite Jest, or other esoteric writings that I may find hard to follow. Although I do plan to build up to that.

    ● Something terrifying. Big fan of horror movies, and have always wanted to delve into to horror novels, as the possibilities are endless.

    ● The pinnacle of storytelling. Whatever this may be to you.

    ● A book that has significantly changed you as a person. Whether this is a self help book, or the communist manifesto, I want something that can enact change in myself.

    ● Something philosophical. Fairly vaugue, but I'm kind of out of my depths in this field, so that's all I got.

    ● A Thomas Pychon book. I know, very specific, and maybe too esoteric for someone like me, but I REALLY love the film Inherant Vice, and have been wanting to check out some of his writing for ages now.

    ● A book about real life events, peoples, places, or things. Anything from the rise of the Roman Empire, to the fall of Blockbuster, I'm game for anything.

    ○ If any of you feel so inclined to recommend me a book that falls outside of these categories, by all means go for it.

A preemptive thank you to anyone who reccomends me a book to help me on this journey 🙂

Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi. It’s about the Manson family and the most terrifying book I’ve ever read; it’s not horror but it will scare you!

If you want something about history, Dinner with King Tut by Sam Kean is fantastic.
