Looking for something that plays on supernatural folklore stuff, preferably one with lots of tension, mystery, I even like the idea of there not being some proper resolution at the end. I'm not opposed to more physical horror, but I think my preference would be for the more intangible supernatural elements and the psychological effects that come with that.
I quite liked Starve Acre by Andrew Hurley (also read The Loney by him but didn't quite do it as much), so I like the English folklore stuff, but it's not a requirement. That exploration of grief and the psychological stuff surrounded by the supernatural was very fascinating to me.
I also recently read Dark Matter by Michelle Paver which also had some folklore elements, and while in the end it didn't quite execute them all enough for me, I also like the idea of a place having deep history, possibly tied to local folklore, that can mean it's haunted or possessed or just generally creepy etc.
