I feel like reading a novel relating to the Ocean, whether it be non-fiction or fiction.

But I don’t just want to pick out any random novel, I’d like to know what are like the best of all-time that I should read, whether it be a non-fiction book, or fiction book in the realms of reality, low fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, etc.

Have the ocean & things about the ocean be vital to the plot.

Do you want it about science? If so The Brilliant Abyss by Helen Scales is highly recommend it is a true science book in that its sole purpose is too tell facts and to explain and be very digestible/easy to understand. But also avoids a lot of things about the author’s travels or personal views that no one cares about

Here me out – The Encyclopedia of the Sea by Richard Ellis

So Ellis is a world-renowned marine biologist and best selling author. His publisher brought him the idea to write a comprehensive general reference for marine subjects and he thought it was the worst idea he’d ever heard. Then he wrote it anyway. It’s alphabetical interconnected micro essays on marine topics, often with “see also” longer than the entry. Hilarious, bizarre, and strangely informative.
