As the title says, I have a horror story in the works but I don’t like the feeling of the opening. The idea I’m playing with is a summery coming-of-age introduction with a jarring transition into the realm of horror. The problem: I don’t believe I’ve read any good source references in my life. I’ve got horror relatively locked up (I would to never say no to a suggestion of a good horror book) but the Rebecca Black “fun, fun, fun” vibe I imagine when writing the first couple chapters just doesn’t hit the way I need it to.
What book reminds you of summer camp, days on the beach, your hair in the wind on a convertible cruise, and camping next to a clear mountain lake?
