Spending some time in Portland ME next week hiking, running, and reading. Want something that takes place up there: thriller, mystery, coming of age, whatever really but preferably a naturalist author like Peter Heller with the setting playing a prominent role.

If so … A Prayer for Owen Meany, Cider House Rules (I *think* it’s also in New Hampshire?). Actually, I believe most of Irving’s novels are set there.
A Prayer for Owen Meany is one of my top 10 favorite books ever, probably. It’s so damn good.
North Woods by Daniel Mason – the story of one Massachusetts house as told through the lives of the people who lived there. I thoroughly enjoyed the poetic writing and natural settings.
