Hi all,
I would like to get back into reading and build a habit before starting my course in college, which has a pretty nasty reading load. I find interest in ethics, human behaviour, philosophy, memoirs, crime cases, and public scandals. I really enjoyed 'Empire of Pain' about the Sackler family. I haven’t read in a while, except for Harry Potter as a child and Empire of Pain during lockdown, so I’d love suggestions for engaging books to help ease me back into reading.
For a bit of backstory: this summer, I've noticed that I have become more reliant and have spent more time on my phone than ever before. In fact, I have started to feel overly reliant and would like to take measures against it, like picking up reading again. I’d love to cut down my screen time, delete apps like TikTok, and pick up a book instead when bored.
I’d really appreciate recommendations that are readable but thought-provoking, and ideally ones that explore real-world events, law, morality, or human behavior. Memoirs and philosophical insights to true crime or public scandals would be ideal. Not strictly limited to non-fiction, as I have had my eyes on 'Normal People' for a while, but I feel like non-fiction will engage me more as I begin my reading journey again. I’d also love “must-read” books; ones that people would love to experience for the first time again.
Thanks in advance!
