Trying to get back into reading fiction, so I thought I’d try a book I remember enjoying twenty years ago, but I’m struggling to get past all the endless character introductions. I’m 12% in and it still feels like a collection of randomly assorted anecdotes, small side stories, and a kind of irritatingly redundant running joke about how crazy everyone is. I’m starting to lose traction and thinking about trying another book…When the hell does this novel get off the ground and start telling a story?

That sounds about right for Catch-22. It’s a vibes book more than a story book.
