I remember the first time I saw the music video for Evolution by Korn. In the video, points are made that human beings are regressing and I am curious if there are more scientific journalism books out there that expand on this thought.

Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed, by Jared Diamond
I don’t know this song or video so am not sure how this band is describing evolution, but the only regression that has been observed isn’t really a “backwards” process. Regression in biology generally just means less complex features develop in future generations. Good example of this would be organisms that have adapted to live in caves like fish or amphibians losing their light sensing adaptations as they no longer require them. It’s just natural selection at play. In terms of evolution retracing its steps backwards, that just doesn’t happen. Not an evolutionary biologist by any means, but cannot think of any instances of evolutionary regression with humans.
I may be overthinking your prompt way too much, apologies OP if I did so.
