Hi guys, well as I said in the title I'm trying to get back into reading. I've read probably 5 books in the last 3 years since I graduated college and as a result both my reading ability and attention span have atrophied enough to make me sad. I really do want to get back into reading but to "maximize my odds" to put it that way I'm looking for some REALLY engaging books, like the page-turniest page turner you know. If it's helpful, I will say that I was in middle school during the peak of the YA dystopia era in the early 2010s and that played a huge role in shaping my taste in novels.

For reference, here are some of my favorite books that I've read:

    • Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

    • Every Hunger Games book

    • Dark Matter and Recursion by Blake Crouch

    • Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

    • The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

    • The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau (I read this a looooong time ago but this was probably the first book that I truly loved and still one of my favorite books of all time even if the writing itself is a little juvenile)

    Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

    1. Red Rising series by Pierce Brown is pretty fast-paced and really engaging, plus the series gets better with each instalment. Highly recommend! These were some of the first book I’ve read that got me back into reading.

    2. If you liked Project Hail Mary, you’ll probably like The Martian! For dystopian, it’s maybe a bit slower to get into, but The Handmaid’s Tale is really powerful. I also think it’s a-ok for adults to read young adult and children’s fiction, and so I’d recommend The Giver; The Wild Robot; and The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm.

    3. – The Long Walk by Stephen King
      – Alcatraz vs The Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson [series]
      – Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness [series]
      – Red Rising by Pierce Brown [series]
      – The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells [series]
      – Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang
      – Pines by Blake Crouch [series]
      – Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson
      – The Warehouse by Rob Hart
      – The One by John Marrs
      – The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
