I have a teenage son who loves scary movies, and I would like him to experience the unique thrill and engagement which comes from a book. However, because he’s a reluctant reader I don’t want to overwhelm him. I’m thinking maybe a book of short horror stories, or a story which is on the short side would be a good choice. I’m open to any and all suggestions!

Any of the Stephen King short story collections (Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, Nightmares & Dreamscapes, etc.). I read them as a teen and loved them.

    2. For a horror novel that expertly intertwines folklore and the fears of modern society, ‘The Changeling’ by Victor LaValle is a book I often find myself recommending. It’s a dark fairy tale for the contemporary world, exploring themes of parenthood, trust, and the horrors that can hide in plain sight.

The Valancourt Book of World Horror Stories volumes 1&2! They also have other short story collections, but the World Horror is my favorite.
