I absolutely loved A gentleman in Moscow, kite runner, to kills a mockingbird because these books also explored/covered another country and their culture.
Now I am reading Pachinko which also I am absolutely loving.
Please suggests me more such novels.

Homegoing, by Yaa Gyasi (Ghana)
Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, set before and during the Nigerian Civil War
Okay this is a memoir, but I absolutely recommend reading leaving mother Lake, by Yang Erche Namu. It is about a woman who grew up in a traditionally matriarchal society, the Moso people of western China
Pretty much anything by Lisa See for Chinese or in some cases Asian/Asian-American culture
