Hey fellow book nerds, I’m on the hunt for something super short to read; like, I don’t want a commitment of 250-300 pages or anything.
But here’s the twist: I want a little mystery, detective-style vibes, nothing too kiddy. And no Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie, because yeah, I love them but I’m trying to branch out.
Any hidden gems you all would recommend?

Hammers on Bone by Cassandra Khaw. Its a small novela, very detective noir with lovecraftian mixed in.
The other book in the series is still lovecraftian but not really detective i sadly found out, completely different main character too. Just set in the same universe.
Rhode Island Red by Charlotte Carter. It’s about a saxophone playing busker who gets tangled up in murder and mystery. It’s under 200 pages.
I’d never heard of it before I found it in the library. I really enjoyed it. I want to read the others in the series.
