The Great Gatsby, A Separate Peace (which I hated up until a couple of years ago), and of course, To Kill A Mockingbird. Also 1984, Of Mice and Men. The latter two I didn’t read in high school myself, but several of my high school students had to read them for English class (I teach world languages) so I wanted to see what the fuss was about.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

      Animal Farm by George Orwell

      The Crucible by Arthur Miller

      Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short stories

I’ve reread all as an adult and they’re still great!

Flowers for Algernon. A lot of people read it in high school but I didn’t read it until I was an adult. Absolutely heartbreaking and beautifully written.
