I’m looking for a new series to hyperfocus on. Open to genre, except for contemporary romance. It’s okay if it’s ongoing, but I’d like there to be at least a few books already out.

I’m open to romantasy if it’s amazing, otherwise I’m just super bored of all the very mid and cringe romantasy being churned out right now.

Lastly, please keep suggestions to books released within the past decade or so, only because I’m an avid reader and have probably already heard of/read the major series older than that.

Here are my fave series, in loose order:

    • Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinneman (drop what you’re doing and immediately read this series if you haven’t already)

    • Temeraire & Scholomance by Naomi Novik (I’ve read everything by her)

    • Murderbot by Martha Wells

    • Bobiverse by Dennis Taylor

    • The Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell

    • Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey

-The Book of Azrael by Amber Nicole

I also really enjoy a good zombie/PA series! Haven’t read one of those in a few years, so I bet there are some new ones I haven’t seen.

Here are some other notable series I’ve already read: ACOTAR, throne of glass, fourth wing (unfortunately), city of brass, red rising, all the skills, primal hunter, atlas six, Gideon the ninth, legacy, tearling, long way to a small, angry planet, purge of Babylon, the expanse, the remaining…I’m missing a lot.

(I didn’t include any older series in the above, but I have read a ton of them, just not including any based on my request for newer series.)

    Thaaaanks!

    1. For a fun genre mashup (and humor I think you’d like based on your recs), try the Midsolar Murders series by Mur Lafferty.

    2. You may want to check out Brandon Sanderson if you haven’t already! He’s a prolific fantasy writer so there’s lots to hyperfocus on for sure.

Typically people suggest the Mistborn trilogy to start out but I personally love his Stormlight Archive way more, starting with Way of Kings.

    3. I think the murder/detective series of Cormoran Strike novels by Robert Galbraith (a pseudonym for JK Rowling) have been consistently excellent. Book 7 just came out. The high point of the series for me was “The Ink Black Heart”.
