I have been stuck on 2 books that I cannot seem to continue for pretty much most of this year.
Book 1: Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson. As much as the story and world building intrigues me, I cannot seem to swallow the writing style as well as how pretty much all the action is concentrated in the second half (of all the books so far) while the first half is a lot of moping (mostly Kaladin and Shallan). These two seem to make leaps in their magical abilities but take 1 step forward and 0.75 back in terms of character development. I have struggled through this series and the next book was just released. I cannot fully drop or fully commit to it either.
Book 2: Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. To get out of the reading slump and try something new, I started reading a classic, albeit depressing, book. The last chapter I finished is where >!the main protoganist fully commits to killing the pawnshop lady to save his sister from a controversial, and rich, suitor<!. I can say I do not want to see him go down this path and it will hurt me to read if he does. And yet I am intrigued because this is pretty much the beginning and there is a lot more to come.
So here's the question: drop or continue?
