My wife and I had a blast buddy reading The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi. It’s just a really fun book, with a lot of humor and sarcasm but in a story that still feels like it matters. Both of us gave it a 5-star review, and my wife is pretty stingy with 5-star reviews. The audiobook is great too, if that’s your thing.

My friend and I have been buddy reading classics. I’ve found it’s the easiest way for me to get through classics, by setting a number of chapters to read per day with my friend. Less pressure. It helps that most of our picks for classic reads aren’t that long. So far we’ve read Frankenstein, Slaughterhouse Five, Animal Farm, and now we’re reading The Road at 1 chapter per day.
Not a classic but we’ve also read I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Hartman together. Such a compelling read. So good and better with a friend since it tends to get pretty sad.
