Hey friends! I need help with book suggestions for my 11 year old niece. Sillier books would be a win as she has been feeling down lately (her parents are great and are very in tune with her and are helping her work through it) she is in jr high and seems to enjoy fantasy and the classics.
    Thank you!

    1. Gregor the Overlander was my favorite series growing up!! Its so magical and it takes place in the modern world but also below ground where a whole colony of people live. The main character is I believe 12 or 11 i cant remember.

So You Want to Be A Wizard was another one that I also really liked!

The Harry Potter series was really good as well!!

The Golden Compass was one of my ultimate favorite books to reread as a kid and teen.

Was once an 11 year old boy, this is what I liked (give or take a year or three for reading level). All are pretty fantastical.

Charlie Bone series (gifted kids with powers)

      Dragonology series (dragons)

      Percy Jackson series (Greek mythology)

      Artemis Fowl series (elves)

      Bartimaeus trilogy (djinn)

Arthur and the Seeing Stone (Round Table)

      Guardians of Ga’Hoole (Owls)

Children of the Lamp (different kind of djinn)

      DragonKeeper chronicles (more dragons)

at that age, i LOVED the artemis fowl books! howl’s moving castle would be perfectly age appropriate, esp if she is reading at a junior high age level.

Tess and the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson was recommended to me by my friend’s ten year old son and I loved it!

    5. A little different, but the Tiffany Aching books in the Discworld series. They are about a young witch, having adversity, with some great characters. It’s not really important to know Discworld, just to figure out where the books are as they are scattered through the end of the series.

They are geared towards ya, but my 9 year old daughter who reads about 10 or 11 year old level loves them.

    6. The Serpents Secret series is very funny. Phantom Tollbooth, always. Holes. The Bartimeaus books (and other books by Jonathan Stroud.) Laura Ruby’s York books.
