First off, I just recently read Hour of the Star, The Maimed, and Notes from Underground. Based on my experience of reading those books, I realize that these are the kind of books that I enjoyed the most. I wanted to be shaken, and not worry about being thrown off by the amount of pages. Does anyone know any similar novels?

    3. I think Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys is incredibly powerful – and it’s around 150ish pages. But, you really need to have read Jane Eyre for the book to work, or at least be aware of the story of Jane Eyre, because it’s written as a prequel to Jane Eyre. It’s the story of the first Mrs Rochester, and how she became the person she is in Bronte’s novel.

    4. Where the Red Fern Grows! I haven’t read it yet but every lady I knew in my undergrad town book club said they loved it
