My niece sister died, and her parents aren’t coping well and are not really active in a productive way in her life. She’s home schooled so doesn’t have a lot of friends was looking for a book that could help build confidence, let her know the world is big and give her hope.

Look at the Marvels by Eric Selznick
The first part of the book is a nearly 400-page visual story about a boy named Billy Marvel, who survives a shipwreck and finds his family working in a London theater starting in 1766. The second part is a prose-based story about Joseph, who seeks refuge in his uncle’s strange London house and uncovers clues about the house, his family, and the past, beginning in 1990.
It’s a huge looking book. Beautifully illustrated.
But also has she read all the Harry Potters?
