I loved reading series as a child and teen, Animorphs, Hardy Boys and a lot of Franco-Belgian comics. As a consequence I developed a love stories that involves different cultures coming into conflict and how a person might react in the face cultural diversity.
My favorite trilogy as a teenager was the ARN trilogy by Jan Guiliou, and I feel in love with stories where you follow a fictional character in real historical settings.
After ARN, I started reading a lot of a manga, and mostly played video games, and didn’t consume books for quite some time.
Later in life I started reading the works of crime/thriller author Qui Xiaolong, then The Expanse Series and lately I’ve been reading the 3 body problem.
When it comes to tv, I’m a fan the downtown abbey, the outlander, and watched a lot of anime in between 2006-2016. I’m not a big fan of fantasy. Sci-fi, western, historical novels are more my jam.
I hope to find a book or series where I can dive in an immerse myself in the worlds and characters. I’m also happy to have recommendations outside of the genres listed above

Here’s a mixture of books you may like, but some I’d say you should read a little bit after getting back into reading (like Blood Meridian)
The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell – Arthurian Britain retold with gritty realism
The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell – England in the Viking age
Shogun by James Clavell – Western sailor thrown into feudal Japan
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett – cathedral-building saga, deeply immersive medieval world.
Dune by Frank Herbert – you might enjoy after The Expanse and 3 Body Problem.
Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds – hard sci-fi, grand scope, but still character-driven.
Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky – evolution, culture, and survival across species.
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry – huge array of characters, unforgettable journey.
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy – darker, mythic western
If you’re looking for something that matches closest to ARN, probably Shogun, Warlord Chronicles or Last Kingdom.
