Recently, I’ve been reading (and enjoying) a lot of longer, denser books. But I’m in the mood for something quicker and simpler with a more or less medieval vibe. Something knights, dragons, castles, maybe magic but not necessarily etc… but I’m not looking to invest into a lengthy series or anything where the language creates a significant hurdle. Lengthy series like GoT or HP. A language example for me is Moby-Dick, which is one of my all-time favorite books, but the prose, while inspiring and beautiful, does not make for a quick read.
Something in the 250-500 page range that I can casually read over fall break.

The Priory of the Orange Tree, by Samantha Shannon
Oath Of Swords by David Weber. While it is part 1 of a series, it is a fairly good standalone book that’ll let you decide whether or not the continuing adventures of Bahzell Bahnakson (who *really* doesn’t want to be recruited as a Paladin) are worth reading.
Company of Liars by Karen Maitland would be perfect
