Hello! I am going on vacation (to Peru) next week and would love suggestions for literary fiction books that are easy to get into, well written and thought provoking but not too heavy or depressing. I definitely don't want "beach reads" and not looking for Latin America specific, but just want to make sure I have something I really enjoy to make the most of actually having some time to relax and read. Books I've read while traveling before that I've loved are things like The Goldfinch, Middlesex, The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay (I will always treasure memories of reading this on a rainy day in a yurt in the mountains of the Caribbean coast of Colombia with my late mom), various Lianne Moriarty titles (but I've read everything of hers at this point, I think!) and the His Dark Materials series. Things I have hated include A Court of Thorns and Roses and anything by Colleen Hoover. Open to literary fiction, literary fantasy or sci-fi, and well written slow-paced thrillers/mysteries. Thank you for any suggestions!
