    I just finished reading Project Hail Mary and had an absolute blast reading it.

    It is one of my favorite books at this point and may have surpassed The Martian at my favorite book.

    I love how Andy Weir weaves a beautiful yet simple story with a funny silly protagonist that survives through preservance and science.

    I love the focus on biology as someone who has a degree in something similar. I love learning new things about Physics and Chemistry and Astronomy.

    Are there any other books like this that are still narrative focused (ideally first person) but spend some time teaching the reader new information.

    Thanks y'all!

    1. * The Book of All Skies by Greg Egan. Probably everything by Greg Egan but I’ve only read his short fiction besides this. Some of his short stories are available free on his website.

      * To Be Taught If Fortunate by Becky Chambers. Heads up, the other books by this author are not hard sci fi, I’d say they range from soft to medium.

      * Dragon’s Egg by Robert L. Forward

      * Contact by Carl Sagan. This 100%, a classic.

      * The Killing Star by Charles Pellegrino and George Zebrowski

      * Autonomous by Annalee Newitz. I thought the depiction of science and scientists were very good here.

      * Trouble With Lichen by John Wyndham. A bit dated, but surprisingly good depiction of science and scientists.

      * Any of the books by Peter Watts. My personal favourite is Starfish, but it’s pretty bleak. The Freeze Frame Revolution is an easier read. Blindsight is his most popular. [His older books are available free on his website](https://www.rifters.com/real/shorts.htm)

      The very beginning includes a little bit of historical/political intrigue but it does not take long to get hard science very fast.

      I think based on what you’re saying, you would like it.
