I want a book that pulls you into a dark, private world and makes you feel like you're uncovering something forbidden. Not just a thriller with a twist, but something that feels morally complex, psychologically intense, and deeply immersive.
What's a book that gave you that feeling of discovering a dangerous truth or stepping into a hidden, unsettling world? I'm open to any genre.

The Secret History, by Donna Tartt
Pretty much anything by Phillip k dick. He wrote the stories that became movies: minority report, total recall, adjustment bureau, Blade runner (do androids dream of electric sheep?, also a tv show), a scanner darkly, another show the man in the high castle. His works influenced numerous other dark conspiracy psych thrillers like the Truman show (time out of joint), vanilla sky (ubik). One of my favorites is the absolute horror show called the threw stigmata of Palmer eldritch. It can be hard to follow these stories and your often left wondering if it was all a dream or a bad trip. These stories are borderline schizophrenic and I wonder if for pkd it was all too real.
