I want to get back into reading because I spend way too much time on the internet. When I was younger I was reading a lot of fantasy and science fiction but it doesn’t have to be those genres. No romance or horror please.
I would like it to have as little romance as possible but if there is romance I would prefer it to be queer. I would prefer recommendations that aren’t full of gore and violence, especially sexual violence. I think I would like something with plenty of lighthearted moments but also some melancholy or heartbreak but that’s not a must.
The language shouldn’t be extremely complex since English isn’t my first language but I’m willing to look up words now and then. The book shouldn’t be too long (under 400 pages). I’m also open to German books.
Thank you in advance for the recommendations.

If you’re open to middle grade fantasy, I recommend [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend! It’s my favorite series even as an adult, and there are [German editions](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/47f77810-82e8-479a-9f51-9e0d36303a4d) if you prefer.
