Hello,
I am looking for some smart, thought-provoking contemporary novels (preferably thriller, mystery, and/or horror). don't want brain-rot novels with page-fillers about flirting with a bar tender, etc. I enjoyed The Stand, Flowers for Algernon, The Alchemist, The History of Fear, works of David Ignatius. Any recommendations?
Thanks

I Who Have Never Known Men
‘Bright Young Women’ by Jessica Knoll
The Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers reminded me of The Alchemist.
I also would recommend A Stranger in Olondria by Sofia Samatar.
Saving Noah- check trigger warnings. My book club had a free eat discussion about how we would feel as parents.
Try these:
The Secret History
Atonement
Piranesi
Station Eleven
The Passage
World War Z
