I had a discussion with a friend recently about what I see as a paradox. On one hand, there’s evidence that people are reading less, attention spans are getting shorter, and functional illiteracy especially among younger people, is on the rise. On the other hand, there are more books being published than ever, new authors emerging constantly, and bookstores appear to be thriving. So, I wonder: who is reading all these books?

The other ones 😀
I think cause of audiobooks and ebook people who read read a lot more
I think you just burst your bubble, there are other groups and people reading that you haven’t encountered yet, try making new friends?
People who do read are reading more, but less people are reading overall. It’s not particularly complicated.
If 100 people each read one book a year, that’s 100 books sold. If 10 people each read 100 books, that’s a 90% decrease in number of readers, and a 1000% increase in sales.
