I've been tracking my reading for a decade now, and am about to hit 1000 books, which is a huge milestone for me! I want to celebrate a bit by choosing something meaningful.
For me, that would mean getting back to my roots of golden age scifi/space opera, fantasy, generational epics or dystopias. I am also super interested in POC authors, particularly Nigerian or Indian backgrounds. I'd like to find some classic or heavy hitter that I've overlooked- or help me narrow down my short list!
To get it out of the way, I've read most Pratchett, King, Butler, Dick, Clark, Brooks, Asimov, Dune, Lovecraft, Heinlein, Kingsolver, Follett, Le Guin, Bradbury, Rushdie, Pern, Tolkien of course, Card, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Ishiguro. All fantastic stuff.
My short list right now is Lem or Iain Banks, but I don't know where to start with them, they are such Giants, please help! I think i want to find We or Solaris… I'd also love a rec for a Tragic Russian Classic, I loved Anna Karenina but haven't read much beyond that and C&P.
I prefer a more lyrical or distant prose, to steer away from casual tone like youd find in the (excellent!) Project Hail Mary or more modern authors. Also not looking for something like Vuong or Marquez, which is too flowery for my taste
If anyone has other gems that have escaped my greedy little paws, please! I'll read them all!
Thank you
