I've been actually trying to get back into reading after many months of (unfortunately) not getting to it. I've found that concise writing styles appeal to me more though, so I'm just looking for books with that style. It could be casual and concise, but also somewhat witty. And as for right now, I'm looking for books with a school setting, so recs on that would be nice! But as for genres I normally like, or am trying to read, it's usually a mix of mystery, action, and fantasy – and maybe some drama/slice of life on the side, too. Totally open for any suggestions that align with what I've said in the post!!

E. B. White. His essays in particular.
Terry pratchett’s discworld books are a treasure trove of casual witty writing. there’s a lot of places to start, but The Wee Free Men starts a (sub)series that isn’t about a school, really, but is about a young witch figuring out her place in the world. for action and mystery, I’d point you to Guards! Guards! and the subsequent city watch novels– irreverent fantasy detective stories.
