Looking for similar authors; long series (15+ books) are a plus but not necessary. Complex, serious worlds with characters who aren’t fluffy are better. I love deep mythology and folklore. For the urban fantasy, I’m mostly okay with the overdone detective/PI angle but I hate the “billionaire werebear lumberjack love-triangle” type or pretty much any series with stereotypical werewolves packs with an alpha male. Witches are mostly not interesting unless they’re unique and the plot is intriguing. No “magic school” or other coming-of-age or Chosen Ones.
My favorite authors are, probably in order:
Seanan McGuire
Joe Abercrombie
John Gwynne
Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight but not most of his other series
Patricia Briggs (yes, she does the stereotypes but she’s probably the best at it)
Jim Butcher
Robin McKinley (a little too fluffy though)
Brent Weeks (so-so)
Mildly like:
Charlaine Harris
Jeff Wheeler
Ilona Andrews
Robin Hobb
Jennifer Blackstream
Scott Lynch
Dislike:
Wheel of Time
Sword of Truth
ASOIAF
Thank you!
