A friend (avid reader) suggested me the brothers karamazov to pick up next in my reading list.
I thought it was short book cause I just saw the preview length.

Turns out that it has like 1000+ pages… And now I'm confused
I mean i don't mind reading long books but is it worth it?
Anyone here who has read it and can give an honest opinion?

PS – i am looking to read something thought provoking and philosophical. Somethin that's not pulp fiction.

Having read it once, I felt like I could have started the book in the middle and not missed anything from the first half.

It suffers from my having read War and Peace just before it. Tolstoy packs so much meaning into little moments of nothing. Dostoyevsky packs so much nothing into meaningful moments.

    2. Yes it is worth it. It takes a long time to read it, I found it difficult too. But it was all worth it at the end!

Are you sure it was a serious suggestion? Brothers Karamazov is known for being a challenge to read. Your friend might be trolling you with that suggestion, or he’s bragging about having read it if he’s the pretentious type

It’s a good book but very different from modern books which is part of what makes it a challenge to read. It’s also long and has a large cast of characters and russian naming conventions can be confusing which adds stone to burden

If you’re not an experienced reader I would suggest you leave that book for later
