Books about changing beliefs / questioning what you grew up believing?

I’m looking for novels (not spiritual or religious bur rather scientific) where characters slowly outgrow or question the ideas they were raised with — like nationalism, cultural myths, childhood heroes, etc. Something that explores losing certainties and seeing the world in a new light as you mature. Any recs?
