This may be weirdly specific, but I'm looking for something that evokes the feel of "Murder on the Orient Express" but that doesn't have to be a mystery story; the vibe I'm looking for kind of has to do with the decline of the aristocracy and the world being on the brink of war, with people sort of holding onto the last vestiges of luxury they're able? Some period elements I enjoy are sleeper trains, vacationing in old hotels in the mountains/by the sea, big old houses with secrets owned by old-money families, that kind of thing.

Books I've enjoyed in the past that are somewhat similar are "Brideshead Revisited" and "I Capture the Castle." I've also read most of Agatha Christie's other popular works that are similar, like "Evil Under the Sun" and "Death on the Nile."

Looking for kind of a vacation read but with evocative prose, and not humorous fiction (I love Wodehouse but he's not what I'm looking for at the moment); open to both fiction and nonfiction.
