A German friend told me recently about the experience her mother and father had while living in Guatemala during the war. It included their separation and the painful, inhumane repatriation for the mother and her young children and, for the man, a concentration camp.
This came as a total surprise to me, though of course, I'm all too painfully aware of what happened to Jews and other oppressed groups in Nazi occupied countries.
But her story of this brutal repatriation is new to me. Any suggestions you have as to how I can learn more about it through nonfiction accounts.
But even if you can recommend a well-researched historical fiction, that would also be helpful.
I'm just so shocked by my total ignorance of these events. Thanks so much. Much appreciated.
