I remember those who read/didn’t read around me still knew of Harry Potter. Its impact was cultural. Any idea what book series is at that scale lately? Impact wise. Basically what are 2010+ burn teenagers are even reading as much and does this generation have its own poster series like Harry Potter?

Harry Potter
Probably Harry Potter.
Twilight?
Starhunt by Alysa Misfeldt
They’re still reading Harry Potter. Or manga.
Harry Potter. All “the new Harry Potter”s have come and gone, but not actual Harry Potter
Probably one of the popular manga. I’m assuming One Piece. It has immense global reach, but not to the extent that Harry Potter did. I can’t think of anything else.
I feel like they read less? My little brother, born 2006, doesn’t read at all and it doesn’t seem to be something he or his friends are interested in. I used to go to the library with friends after school.
I know a lot of kids have read the Wings of Fire series. But it’s still not nearly as “big” as HP.
I think this highlights just how rare this kind of thing is. People queueing up at midnight in costume to buy a book that follows character over a nearly decade long arc is a pretty singular event.
Probably Percy Jackson for the younger crowd,
Each generation doesn’t automatically get their own Harry Potter equivalent. The level of hype it achieved had never been seen before, and may never occur again
It’s unlikely to ever recur at the Harry Potter level.
There are loads of really popular fandoms amongst children and teens currently, but that crossover breakout cultural phenomenon? No, nothing close to HP.
7-12 year old (mostly) boys – Dog Man, Bunny vs Monkey
8-12 year old girls – Lottie Brooks (used to be Murder Most Unladylike series 3-5 years ago)
9-12 generally – Skandar, Impossible Creatures, still Percy Jackson & Harry Potter
Teens – Leigh Bardugo, Derek Landy, Sarah J Maas, Lauren Roberts, Stephanie Novik
I see random tiktok recommendations being bought but a story you read through the years and grow with the characters? I can think of song of ice and fire but that’s more famous as got than books, i don’t know. I remember the fever when harry potter last books released, it was like an Apple event, people waiting in lines all night
Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Court of Thorns and Roses series was pretty popular when I was a bookseller.
