I seriously need help with this one you guys! I’m in my 40s, I have no idea what to recommend, and I don’t want to mess up this chance I have to get her into reading!
she’s had a severe relationship trauma, she’s struggling to figure out what to do w her life, all the 20s issues I guess!
She’s interested in fashion, said she wants something where the main character is a woman her age.
I’ve been googling like crazy but bc I am an Old every book feels geared to someone much younger? So I really need help, and the stakes feel so high bc maybe this is the book that turns her into a reader? If it can grab her off the bat so she gets into it..
I just love her so much and want her to have this joy in her life!

The Bell Jar (maybe, maybe not depending on her mental state, but it’s about young lady struggling + fashion)
City of Girls
Normal People
My Year of Rest and Relaxation (again, maybe, maybe not?)
Edit: also, you should tell her that as a “new” reader she may have to read many books before finding “her lane” and what she connects with
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

The first Mistborn trilogy features a woman about her (our, as I’m 21 lol) age as the main character although that’s fantasy so I don’t know how interested she’d be in that.
