Hello! I am recently returning to reading after a several month hiatus (I'm in a PhD program and just passed my qualifying exam but the time leading up to the exam was way too stressful and busy to fit in any excess reading time) and I'm looking for book suggestions that elicit the cozy, spooky nostalgic feeling that is often associated with autumn and Halloween time.

I tend to read romance, fantasy, and horror or any combination of those genres. Some examples of books that I've really enjoyed include:

    • "Baby Teeth" by Zoje Stage
    • "Home Before Dark" and all works by Riley Sager
    • The Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn
    • The Empyrean Series by Rebecca Yarros
    • "The Love Hypothesis" and all works by Ali Hazelwood
    • "Carrie" and most works by Stephen King
    • The Dream Harbor Series by Laurie Gilmore
    • "Quicksilver" by Callie Hart
    • "A Head Full of Ghosts" by Paul Tremblay
    • Throne of Glass, Crescent City, and ACOTAR series by Sarah J Maas
    • "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski
    • "Silver Elite" by Dani Francis

Also open to true crime if that fits the ambience. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

    1. *Secret Society of Irregular Witches* – Sangu Mandanna – this is always my number one recommendation for a cozy, fall read! Not necessarily “spooky” but cozy and witchy.
