I love books, I love reading (or so I thought) but I have picked up at least six books in the past few days and have failed to finish any of them. I’m picking up stories and genres I’m interested in but my brain will not let me finish a it, even when it’s not bad. It’s like halfway through, my brain will shut down and I’m not interested anymore, it’s like something happened where I’m suddenly aware that I’m reading a fictional story and I can’t finish it and I just want to start on a new one. It’s been a month since I’ve finished a book, not sure what’s wrong with me like I always want to read but I literally cannot. Wonder if anyone else has gone through this and how to combat it because it’s just so frustrating.

Can you swap to audiobooks for a while? Sometimes the brain just nopes out of reading. I have had that issue this year too.

    2. Are they all the same genre and all fiction? What’s your average daily screentime hours?

You just haven’t found anything that truly hooks you. IMO, being “not bad” is not good enough. It really doesn’t matter that much if you don’t finish a book. As long as you enjoyed what what you did read, that’s what’s important. Eventually you’ll find a book that you truly love and you won’t be able to put it down until the very last page.

    4. you might need to simply take a break from reading or try a different format or genre from your norm, you might just be burnt out on a specific genre or be forcing yourself too hard

    5. Could it be because social media has affected our brains, training them to be entertained for short periods of time? We can scroll and skip around and try something new immediately.

    6. I’m thinking my phone has something to do with it.  I have trouble concentrating on everything these days.

I’d take a guess that doom scrolling may be taking a part in why you can, tictok, Instagram, Reddit ect. They don’t do good things to the attention span.
