As a mid 50’s cis straight white man who likes to think I’m “woke” in the sense that word was meant years ago: aware, trying to understand, and willing to be challenged. I’m looking for a book that genuinely shifts perspective.

Fiction or nonfiction are both fine. What’s the one book you’d hand to someone like me and feel confident saying, “You’ve probably never read this, but you should”?

    1. Honestly anything from a perspective outside your own identity. I think that is true for anyone, we could all use to learn from each other. Is there any particular identity that you feel you have never read their perspective or an issue that you want to learn more about? I mostly read fiction but happy to suggest something!

    2. We Should All Be Feminists or When God Was A Woman. I liked both for their unique perspectives on feminism and the history of patriarchy. It not only affects women but also men deeply.
