Last Christmas my son got into Diary of a Wimpy kid series. Until then, he wasn’t much of a reader and reading was a daily chore for him, along with maths and music. Over the course of the next 4-5 months, he had devoured the whole series. We have now tried various other authors and series ( from Astrid Lindgren to Emil the detective, to even various Minecraft books as he is into Minecraft) but all without success. He will finish a book but it does not hold the same level of excitement for him. He keeps going back to his wimpy kid, re-reading the books over and over. He does not want to read Harry Potter as he got scared by the movie when he was a bit younger.
Can you please recommend me something that you think will get him excited? We have relocated from US to Europe last year so it’s not like I can simply waltz into a library and pick up 15 English books for him to seep through at his whim.
Thank you in advance!

Dog Man
Calvin and Hobbes
Geronimo Stilton
Spud by John van de Ruit. It is a diary of a boy at boarding school in South Africa and it is hilarious. It has a few sequels as well.
Honestly harry potter
The Hilo Series and Camp Doomsday are graphic novels that my son loves
Seconding Hilo; it’s a great, fun graphic novel series with a bit more depth than Diary of a Wimpy Kid. If he likes that, Mighty Jack (another graphic novel, modern day kid with magic beans that grow an entire superpowered garden) and the companion series Zita the Spacegirl. If he likes those, Cardboard Kingdom and its sequels.
The Adrian Mole books
Mr Gum series is wildly fun
I bet he’d like the Press Start! series. He might like the humor in Ricky Ricotta’s Mighty Robot series by Dav Pilkey.
