Hello all! I've been looking for some good short stories to read. I love classic books and contemporary fiction. My favourite novellas are The Pearl and Of Mice and Men, both by John Steinbeck. I also enjoyed The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. As for short stories, I really enjoyed Annie Proulx's Brokeback Mountian (I have yet to watch the movie lol). Thanks!!!

    1. Address Unknown by Katherine Kressman Taylor. Epistolary fiction and a gut punch.

The English Understand Wool by Helen DeWitt. You can read it on a lunch hour. Dry, understated, and powerful.

Two connected novellas – River of Teeth and Taste of Marrow, by Sarah Gailey. Later published together as American Hippo. A true fact – the US once considered importing hippoes as an alternate meat source. It never happened, but Gailey takes that factoid and goes gleefully nuts with it. Feral hippoes in the swamps and bayous, and a ragtag group of mercenaries are hired to get rid of them. What could possibly go wrong. It’s funny and gory and do much fun.
