I’ve read about 5 romance / fantasy books in the past couple of weeks, and the genre repetition has put in a bit of a reading slump. I think a thriller is just the thing to get me out of it. I’m aiming for a book that will take my breath away and leave me wanting more! I typically read standalones, but I’m not opposed to series.
What I’d like to see:
– Strong female characters
– MC being at least mid twenties
– Plot twists
– Not too slow
– Engaging / gripping
– Historical settings (not a must)
– Paranormal (not a must)
– Likeable characters
– Morally gray characters (not a must)
What I dislike in a thriller:
– Predictability
– Cozy thrillers
– Too cliche
– Insufferable lead characters
– Iffy on psychological thriller
– Romance, but it’s fine as a sub-plot (emphasis on sub)
– Damsel in distress
Thrillers / thriller adjacent books I enjoyed when I was younger:
– Bad Girls Don’t Die
– From Bad to Cursed
– As Dead as it Gets
– Awake by Natasha Preston
– Asylum
– Sanctum
– The Third Twin
A thriller / thriller adjacent books I was disappointed by:
– Carmilla
– A Certain Hunger
by ViridianLinwood
