16th Century Central or South American (or Caribbean Islands) Setting

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a book set in the 1500s in Mexico, Central America, South America, or the Caribbean (basically any of the Americas other than New England/Jamestown). It doesn't have to exclusively be about early colonization in that part of the world, although I expect most books probably are at least tangentially related to that. Extra points if it wasn't written by a white man. I'm open to other genres outside of just general "historical fiction" as well.
