Just visited Fort Sumter and it just solidified how much I DON’T know about the Civil War. Not a non-fiction fan but like reading historical fiction and then searching about the time period I’m reading in on my own. What’s your favorite Civil War-era historical fiction novel?

The Killer Angels
*The Killer Angels* by Michael Shaara
Without a doubt, Michael Shaara’s Killer Angels. Unforgettable.
It’s not nonfiction, but Erik Larson’s latest book The Demon of Unrest is all about the months leading up to the attack on Fort Sumter. It’s written in a much more engaging way than typical history texts because he uses all the actual correspondence, journal entries, etc from Lincoln and all the “characters” in the book.
