I want series with an overaching war played out in a series of battles. Where we follow a competent main character as a general of overall leader like a king or emperor. If the MC is just a general in the service of a king/emperor then the king should also be competent and not written as someone trying to find themselves leading to them making costly mistakes
Would be also nice if there was some court intrigue/ politics involved. And we have the main character trying to manoeuvre around this as well.
I've read the red rising series and sun eater series so books with battles like seen here. Also the stormlight archive
EDIT: Forgot to add i'm more interested with a singular pov character than multiple characters

First law trilogy
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card (and then it becomes a whole series)
For sci-fi the 2 series I love are the **Honor Harrington** series by **David Weber** and I really love **the Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell**. Both have believalbe space battles with actual through put into strategy and weapons that are not the Star Wars / Star Trek tropes of shoot a laser and destroy a ship. Battles are hours and sometimes days long buildups at relativistic speeds and strategies. both series came across to me as well written military fiction coupled with politics and back stabbing “on the senate floor”. though both are more focused on the battles.
The Honor Harrington books started 20+ years ago but at the time were some of the best and most well written female MC military fiction out there.
The Lost Fleet series is newer and the initial series has 6 books then there are multiple spinoff series (though I have not read all of these) with one taking the POV of the main protagonist in the system war the Syndicate. Great seeing a giant space opera told from both sides, even if it takes a dozen books to get the whole story.
